There Are Aliens Among Us

How odd of a statement is that? Perhaps the sting has long since vanished with all of the extra-terrestrial movies that have come out. Almost to a fault now that folks claim that aliens do exist, and that it’d be extremely cool to live with them, learn their culture, and intermingle. But that statement is true and has been for over 2000 years. There are aliens that live among us. And we are to be those aliens!

Christians are citizens. That is a proven fact. “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself” (Phil 3:20-21). Christians are alien citizens. But are we acting like those citizens…that is the question.

Peter agrees with Paul in 1 Peter 2:11-12, “Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.”

Wouldn’t it be extraordinary to see the fruition of these verses become a prevalent reality in our society? Where the seed of the serpent notice the actions of the seed of the woman because they stick out like sore thumbs left and right. Where Christians abstain from fleshly passions and keep their conduct honorable. I’m confident that if this were a present reality, a widespread revival would be the outcome as many lost people see our God-honoring good deeds and glorify God.

These passions of the flesh are not as easily identifiable as we may think. We can’t just simply dump this phrase into the sex category and walk away with our heads held high saying “we’ll never fall victim to any of that!” Why? Because that is an example of the passion of the flesh! To wage war against our souls, we must be ready to fight against anything that would desire to control us for anything other than God-honoring good deeds. Haughtiness, self righteousness, and a host of other attitudes are passions of the flesh. Let’s wage war.

And here’s where the gospel comes into play. When the truth of Jesus brings about new birth in our lives, we are officially aliens. By that I mean we are new creations, sojourners, aliens, ambassadors, royal priesthood, and a holy nation. So as we submit to the control of the Spirit, we are able to live as aliens in the world and be noticed. We are able to wage war against the flesh. The world will notice us by our actions. And perhaps God will grant repentance that leads to conversion.

Soli Deo Gloria

Just Like You

The Old Testament is a valuable chunk of the Bible, about two-thirds of it, that ought to be read and studied. Yes I know there are a lot of narratives. Yes I know there are a lot of names that are really hard to pronounce. But it needs to be read and studied.

But wait….you say, we were given the New Testament to show us how Christians are to live under the New Covenant in light of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. What benefit can we possibly derive from the Old Testament? To that I say, “oh come come now.”

By reading it, we realize that the Israelites are not some special group of people. They’re not some extinct group of people. They are just like you. We have to look, listen, and learn from them. I’ll say it again…they are just like you. And if we don’t understand that, we’ll never understand the glory of the Gospel. Apostle Paul worded it this way in 1 Corinthians 10:6, “now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did,” and in verse 11, “now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction.”

And if that doesn’t sink in, perhaps this Lecrae video will.

Beating The Body/Mind Into Submission

Health is no joke. It’s not something to worry about when you “get up there” in age. I have a wide range of family members at different ages that have suffered due to health problems, and some are still managing them. I say all of that to say it is crucial that we beat our bodies into submission.

Saying no to certain foods throughout the day is beneficial. Training yourself to take in healthier foods over less healthy foods is monumental. I’m sure we’ve all heard the ‘moderation’ spill from folks, but I think that spill has helped to confuse many of weak-minded people who in all honesty have various levels and understanding of moderation. I say all of that to say it is crucial that we beat our minds into submission also.

Teaching people how to think and wade through various arguments that are thrown at them through all sorts of communication mediums continues to reach epic and dire proportions. Wonder why obesity is an issue? Let the obese kids and parents tell their side. If we are able to educate the mind on current and accurate information, then we will be able to help them better control their bodies, if they so desire.

Education isn’t always power. Sometimes it’s just information laid on the wayside. Putting that information to good use is powerful. Teaching people how to say no often helps to train them to temper their bodies. This goes way beyond the new year resolution habits that are laughable at best.

Not to forget that we have been created by God, the creator of the heavens and earth, to glorify him in everything with our minds and bodies. This is but the pivotal motivation used to set minds on track so as to spur us bringing our bodies along. So begin the process of beating your body and mind into submission – God created you to bring Him glory.
